Research Study commissioned* by Conversocial shows companies are finding it difficult to keep up with consumers social media interaction and customer needs / demands.
51% of respondents use social media to communicate with companies
78% of respondents believe social media is here to stay
33% of respondents that communicated with companies felt they were ignored or neglected
88% of respondents with unanswered complaints said they are less likely to do business with the company in the future
32% of respondents were generally satisfied with how companies communicate using social media with them
only 8% of respondents were totally satisfied with the way companies do business on social network sites.
Businesses need to pick up the pace, on internet marketing, and need to develop a plan to manage online visibility especially how to manage their presence and involvement on social media effectively.
Trying to do too much too quickly without setting customer centric goals and the right skills and controls to implement social media effectively could have a negative impact on customer satisfaction.

The smartphone juggernaut continues?in the U.S. According to a new Nielsen report,?49.7 percent of mobile subscribers owned smartphones as of February. That's up from 36 percent a year ago.
Two-thirds of those who got a new phone in the last three months chose a smartphone over a feature phone, the research firm says. ?
Android-based phones lead the U.S. smartphone market with a 48 percent share, while Apple's iPhone is at 32 percent, and BlackBerry is at 11.6 percent.
"Among recent acquirers who got their smartphone within the last three months, 48 percent of those surveyed in February said they chose an Android and 43 percent bought an iPhone," the research firm said. Only 5 percent opted for a BlackBerry.
Another report, from comScore earlier this month, said that Android is on nearly half the phones ?carried by the country's 101 million smartphone subscribers, while about another third use iPhones.
RIM, which makes BlackBerry, has continued to decline as a favorite among U.S. purchasers. In the summer of 2011, Nielsen pegged RIM's U.S. market share at about?20 percent.
In Nielsen's?"State of the Media: The Mobile Media" report, released in December and based on a survey of 25,000 mobile customers,?the research firm said smartphone ownership is predominant among those age 18 to 34.
Nearly two-thirds -- 64 percent -- of 25? to 34-year-olds and 53 percent of 18? to 24-year-olds own smartphones, "and they have led in smartphone penetration compared to other age groups since 2009."

So here we are, week 2 of The Apprentice and it?s time for the Apprentices to show how little creativity they have. Maybe it?s the applicants, maybe it?s the people the BBC selects, maybe it?s the way they edit the programme but, whatever the reason, year after year the Apprentices struggle whenever anything creative is thrown into their paths.
Tonight?s task was to design and then pitch a domestic gadget. Two heavyweight retailers (Amazon and Lakeland) were lined up so that the Apprentices could make sales or make fools of themselves with the simple objective that the team with the most orders afterwards would win.
Team leaders for the week were elected as Jane and Azhar. The boys quickly came up with two ideas? a portable waste bin that compacted organic waste for the kitchen and some rubber gloves for washing up with scourers and sponges attached. The girls struggled (to have a thought between them) but eventually decided upon? a tap cosy (basically a pillow to go over your bath taps) and a screen for the bath which would stop a baby from splashing and be used as an ?actvity centre?.
Both teams split in two and sent half of their members out to do ?market research? whilst the other half, in both cases run by the project managers, did their own thing with seemingly no intention whatsoever of listening to the results of the research. Lip service paid to market research both project managers duly ignored it and went with the ideas that they favoured instead.
In the sales pitches to the retailers neither team appeared impressive although we saw very little of the actual presentations themselves but the girls did excel by messing up the maths and then seemingly being unable to sort it out between them. This reminded me of the memorable Apostrophe-gate scandal from a couple of years ago when none of the Apprentices seemed to know how to use an apostrophe! Apparently, the basics of language and maths are unneccessary for business.
So what did we learn tonight??
Sales training and success tip 1: Don?t think? Do!
Walk the walk don?t talk the talk. Talking about what you are going to do is irrelevant. Saying how great you are is boasting. Bragging about how you will make the sale, win the client or get promoted is pointless? if you?re not going to walk the walk. Success is about doing a good job not talking a good job.
Sales training and success tip 2: Be creative.
If you want to succeed in business today then you need to be creative? creative in your offerings, creative in your marketing, creative in your sales techniques and creative in how you get and stay on top of your game. People talk about ?developing? creativity but I believe everyone has all of the creativity in them that they will ever need. They just need to have confidence in their own ability to tap into it (* see sales leadership tip below).
Sales training and success tip 3: Ditch the ego.
I?ve said it every year that The Apprentice has been on and several times inbetween? Ego has no place in sales. Ego is not the route to success. Indeed, there is a good chance that your ego will get in the way of your success. There is a good chance that your ego will trip you up. There is a good chance that you will not attain what you deserve in your life as long as you hold onto your ego.
Sales training and success tip 4: Sales pitches require structure.
Planning and preparing your sales presentation or sales pitch is critical. Spewing out alphabet soup about your product is easy. Making it engaging, relevant and compelling for your client is where the rubber hits the road. Make sure that your sales pitches are well thought out, well structured and relevant for your clients.
Sales training and success tip 5: Know your figures, know your facts.
I have never seen anything quite as inept as the mess the girls made of figures this week. Had they been on The Dragon?s Den facing Peter or Theo they?d have all been tossed down the wooden stairs and out of the den. Messing up your figures or your facts is inexcusable.
Sales training and success tip 6: Know when to shut up.
Enough said!
Sales leadership tip: Great sales teams are inclusive.
Great sales leaders run inclusive teams. They share. They are open. They have good communication. They work together. They help each other out. They play together. They are in it for each other not against each other. They can cope with healthy competition. * Great sales leaders give encouragement and it?s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them.
In the Boardroom?
The boys had won gaining 13,000 orders compared to (a somewhat lucky) 7500 for the girls. They boys went off to The Ivy to celebrate and Jane opted to bring back Maria and Jenna. Predictably, all three girls blamed someone other than themselves for the failure of the task. Unpredictably, Jane tried the X-Factor rain dance pitch about her young son to try and get the sympathy vote to keep her place. Unsurprisingly, Lord Sugar stamped on this line of attack pronto. You need someone less grizzly than him to make that dog hunt.
But she was safe anyway (just) as Lord Sugar sacked Maria.

Taking on home improvements can be exciting and daunting all at the same time. Do the research, get informed and make sure that you don?t fall into the trap of making the most common mistakes that people make when undertaking large renovation projects.
7. Rushing in. Sure, you?re excited and want to get things going but take the time to plan and research your project and get the design decided upon before you get started. Flying by the seat of your pants during a home improvements is not advisable!
6. Taking on more than you can handle. Many people want to do the work themselves either to cut costs or simply because they think DIY will be easy to do. Do the work you know how to do and leave the rest to a trained professional. Hire a general contractor to take care of anything that you can?t handle yourself.
5. Ignoring rules and regulations. Building regulations are there for a reason, and are enforced strictly in most areas. Get to know your local by-laws, and find out which permits are required for your renovation projects. Better to deal with this beforehand rather than deal with the consequences down the road as this could involve paying fines or undoing the completed work.
4. Hiring the wrong contractor. Whoever you hire is going to be in and out of your home and your life for the next while. Be sure that you can live with that and also that you are on the same page when it comes to the work that is to be done. See our blog Tips to Working Well with Your General Contractor for more on this topic.
3. Cutting corners. Trying to cut costs by using cheap materials or doing only cosmetics and avoiding important elements like windows, electrical and plumbing is ill advised. If you can?t afford to do it right, wait until you?ve saved up enough money and take the time to plan and dream while you?re saving.
2. Under budgeting. It is easy to under budget when it comes to home improvement projects since often one thing leads to another as you open up walls, pull out floors or ceilings and find hidden structural problems that have to be addressed right away. Don?t splash out on high-end finishes before the major work has been done and try to have a contingency fund in place if at all possible.
1. Underestimating the time requirement and the chaos involved. Renovations can be stressful, time consuming and even frustrating at times. They are rarely completed as quickly as you?d like, especially if you are living without a kitchen or a bathroom.
Preparing for your home renovation well ahead of time and talking to a home improvement specialist can help you avoid the biggest pitfalls of home renovations.

KABUL (Reuters) - A U.S. Army sergeant was formally charged with 17 counts of murder on Friday for killing eight adults and nine children in a pre-dawn shooting rampage in southern Afghanistan that further eroded U.S.-Afghan relations already frayed by a decade of war.
Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, a decorated 38-year-old veteran of four combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, also was charged with six counts each of assault and attempted murder for attacking two other adults and four children in the March 11 shooting spree, a U.S. armed forces statement said.
Premeditated murder is a capital offence under the U.S. military justice code, so Bales could face the death penalty if convicted. He would face a mandatory minimum sentence, if convicted, of life imprisonment with eligibility for parole, the military statement said.
Bales is accused of walking off his base under cover of darkness and opening fire at civilians in their homes in at least two different villages in Panjwai district in Kandahar province. Defense officials said four men, four women and nine children were killed. A man, a woman and four children were wounded or shot at.
"The charges allege that, on or about March 11, 2012, Staff Sergeant Bales did, with premeditation, murder seventeen Afghan civilians and assaulted and attempted to murder six other civilians," a U.S. armed forces statement said.
Initial reports from Afghanistan put the death toll at 16 people, including three women and nine children. It was not immediately clear where the extra count came from. Afghan officials were still counting 16 on Friday, and U.S. officials said none of the wounded had died.
A U.S. defenses official said the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan had never confirmed an official death toll and that evidence developed during the investigation led to the decision to bring 17 murder counts.
The killings seriously strained relations between Kabul and Washington, with Afghan President Hamid Karzai demanding that NATO forces leave Afghan villages and withdraw to major bases.
NIGHT RAIDS
Karzai also demanded that foreign combat troops, most of whom are due to leave the country by the end of 2014, stop carrying out controversial night raids of Afghan homes, seen by NATO commanders as one of the most effective anti-insurgent tactics.
Taliban insurgents vowed to take revenge on NATO forces for the 17 killings, saying they had no faith in any court proceeding.
Bales is being held at Leavenworth military prison in Kansas but is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state. That is where the next step in the judicial process is expected to take place.
Under U.S. military law, a Special Court-Martial Convening Authority at Lewis-McChord will decide whether to order an investigation of the charges at an Article 32 hearing, which is similar to a preliminary hearing in a civilian court.
An Article 32 investigation usually gives the accused a fairly detailed overview of the case against him, including testimony and evidence that will be presented, officials say.
Bales' attorney, John Henry Browne, suggested he might use the soldier's mental state as a defense.
"My first reaction to all of this is, prove it ... This is going to be a very difficult case for the government to prove in my opinion. There is no CSI (crime scene investigation) stuff. There's no DNA. There's no fingerprints," Browne told CBS' "This Morning" program before the charges were laid.
But he said: "The mental state eventually will be definitely an issue.
Bales, who had just begun serving his first tour of combat duty in Afghanistan, had suffered a traumatic brain injury during a vehicle rollover on one of his tours in Iraq and also lost part of a foot in a separate incident.
Browne has said Bales was told he wouldn't be sent back into combat after three tours in Iraq, but in December he was called up for a fourth tour in 10 years, this time to Afghanistan.
Lance Rosen, an attorney for Bales' wife, Kari, told ABC News that the staff sergeant called his wife immediately after the incident in Afghanistan and told her "something terrible" had happened.
Rosen said the couple spoke for about three minutes, evidently after Bales had surrendered to coalition forces, before the call was cut off.

A shopper at an Adidas outlet in Beijing prepares to buy a souvenir Jeremy Lin T-shirt.

BEIJING ? Asian-Americans continue to be the fastest growing ethnic population in the U.S., according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics released on Wednesday.
The data, which come weeks ahead of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month in May, also demonstrates how integral a part of the American fabric Asians have been.?As many as 1.5 million businesses in the U.S. are owned by Asians. More than a quarter million have served in the U.S. military.?And nearly half of the Asian-American electorate voted in the 2008 presidential election.
And yet while generations of Asians have integrated into American society, a small but growing number of the 3.8 million Asian-Americans of Chinese descent are finding themselves in mainland China to study or to work.
Especially since the 2008 global economic crisis, many ethnic Chinese are seeking economic opportunities in China as emigrants. Almost all are also motivated by cultural heritage interests.
At the same time, Jeremy Lin's popularity has reignited discussions about identity among Chinese-Americans that are unlikely to wane as quickly as Linsanity.
A cupcake shop, a brewery and a barbecue restaurant are just three of a growing number of small businesses started by Americans in China. Rock Center travels to Beijing to see how some are pursuing their entrepreneur dreams in another country.
One writer for the sports website Grantland hit on the issue during the height of Lin hype last month: "These have been a revealing two weeks, not only for the Asian-American community or the Ivy League basketball community or the talent evaluator committee, but also for the watchdogs, handwringers, and pulpit-thumpers. Not since Barack Obama's presidential campaign has there been so much national discussion about the appropriateness of discussing race."
And in China, where many American-born Chinese have gravitated over the past few years, race and nationality intersect in interesting, sometimes confusing, ways.
Brittney Wong feels "even less Chinese" in China than she expected.
"I realized how American I am," said the 23-year old Seattle native, who?recently arrived in Beijing for a year-long intensive Chinese language course. "Which is strange, because I just assumed I would just blend in perfectly here."
Cultural disconnect
But in trying to befriend local Chinese, Wong came to see that "learning about their experiences in high school and their lives, how they lived so far, [are] so different from my experiences.?Even their personalities."
The cultural disconnect is compelling enough to have provided some inspiration for a new feature-length film.
Daniel Hsia is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker who has just wrapped up production for "Shanghai Calling," a movie about American expats in Shanghai.?"The world is turning on its head. Expectations are being reversed all the time," said Hsia.
In the movie, the main protagonist is a Chinese-American executive whose employer sends him to Shanghai.?"I thought it would be more interesting to have the character [be] of Chinese descent but completely ignorant of Chinese culture. It just creates more conflict.?It's more interesting to watch a character who looks like he fits in but doesn't."
Sometimes the cross-culture experience makes people feel even more American.
"In many ways, being in China has caused me to have a strong appreciation for just how American I am," said Jason Chu, a 25-year old Delaware native.?"It has helped me come to terms or embrace the positive aspects of being distinctly Asian-American."
Chu is wrapping up two years in Beijing, where he has been dividing his time between serving as a pastor and writing music.?The child of ethnic Chinese parents from Malaysia and Thailand, he grew up speaking English and began learning Chinese in college in the U.S.?
Novelist Gish Jen discusses the sometimes complicated relationship between native Chinese and Chinese Americans with NBC's Adrienne Mong.
Speaking fluent Chinese, Chu has found, is perhaps the most critical determinant of authenticity.?"There is this sort of disappointment that many Chinese-Americans are familiar with, where if you look Chinese or people know you're Chinese and your Chinese language isn't good, you're less of a person," he said.
Writer Gish Jen, on a recent trip to Beijing, recalled similar reactions when she first visited the mainland in the 1980s.
"In the early days, I used to feel they were quite critical," said the novelist, one of a handful of hyphenated American novelists who led the multicultural wave of fiction in the U.S. in the early 1990s.?"They saw me as a sort of fallen Chinese? You don't even speak Chinese, what's the matter with you."
Asian body with a Western mind
Although Jen believes mainstream Chinese attitudes toward overseas Chinese such as herself have improved, she thinks many still fail to understand what it means to be American.
"I don't think they understand what it means to be in between [China and the U.S.]," she explained.
The Chinese "don't distinguish between nationality and ethnicity," said Chu.?"They don't understand that it's possible to have an Asian body but a Western mind."
That seemed to be the case when U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke arrived on the mainland last year. Some Chinese media commentators and bloggers voiced expectations that Locke, an ethnic Chinese born in the U.S., would be more sympathetic to Beijing's point of view. When it became clear that he was here to represent America, some of those same voices accused him of betrayal. One critic called him a "fake foreign devil who cannot even speak Chinese."
For Chinese-Americans like Chu, being in China means more about being American and behaving more overtly like an American.?"I dress more differently [than the Chinese here]," he said.?"I over-emphasize my foreignness."
Sense of apartness
Similarly, Toronto native Lili Gao thinks living in China has brought out a sense of apartness that she said she never experienced growing up in Canada.
"I never had any cultural identity issues in Canada. I speak Chinese, but I'm Canadian,"?said Gao, who was born in Shanxi before moving to Canada when she was 6 years old.?"But then, coming back here, I realized I really was not Chinese.?That was an interesting experience to have a clearer idea of identity."
As with many other Westernized Chinese, Gao found the issue of identity to be rooted in communication.? Although she speaks fluent Mandarin, the young marketing executive said that social culture was a large hurdle.?
"I couldn't possibly get used to it?the way people interact [here,]" she said.?"The Chinese have a different way of communicating" that is not simply about language.
Now, having lived in Beijing for five years and working at Chinese companies, Gao finds herself "over-interpreting all the time, even when I'm communicating with foreigners!"
For someone like Jonny Chin, an 18-year-old senior at an international school in Beijing, it's simply that his American identity is much stronger.?Even though he was only?6 years old when his parents, originally from Hong Kong, moved the family to China from San Francisco ? meaning he has spent two-thirds of his life in Beijing.
"I still refer to America as home," he said.?"Like when I say I'm 'going home' for Christmas.?And when people ask, 'Where are you from?' I say I'm from the U.S."

In this article you will find useful tips about success and self-confidence, that might help and inspire you on your Road To Success.First, I will talk about self-confidence, which is the best weapon in our arsenal. Some research shows that anyone who succeeded to accomplish something really great in life have one thing in common: a strong self-esteem, that allowed them to follow their dreams with determination, and to make everything is necessary to achieve them.
Absence Of Confidence = Failure - What are the reasons for which you have not yet accomplished your dreams? What's Stopping You? Certainly, one of the principal reasons it represents the lack of Self-Confidence. As you can see, all these reasons are based on the lack of confidence. Actually, all these reasons have appeared because you do not have enough confidence.
Thomas Edison was probably the world's greatest inventor, although he had only three months of formal education. Altogether, Edison patented more than 1000 inventions in the United States, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Albert Einstein was expelled from school, Michael Jordan and Bob Cousy were each cut from their high school basketball teams, Walt Disney was fired from his first job on a newspaper because "he lacked imagination and had no original ideas", Abraham Lincoln had two business ventures fail, lost 8 different elections, and had a complete nervous breakdown before becoming president in 1816. As you can see, all these people they had to do with problems much more difficult than those who stop you, and one of the factors that contribute to their success is the self-confidence.
How many times did you hear a true champion speak with doubt? How many times did you hear a Boxer says, "It will be a tough fight, we will just have to wait until Saturday and see how it all works out"? Never, because doubt will knock you out before you even begin. The athletes that are remembered are always those that performed memorably during times of pressure. I say memorably because they could be remembered for choking or rising to the occasion. Anyone who has played competitive sports knows that there is a different feeling during a play-off game, but as with all things in life, that by itself is not a bad thing, it is all in the way you handle it.
Now, I would like to present you 2 books that will change your life, as changed along the time, the life of others. NEW YORK (AP) ? The company that makes Fender guitars is going public with a $200 million IPO.
The iconic guitar maker was founded in 1946 by Leo Fender, and Fender guitars were played by some of the world's biggest music stars, from The Beatles to Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton.
"The Fender brand in particular is closely associated with the birth of rock 'n roll and has a strong legacy in music and in popular culture," the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Fender Musical Instruments Corp. said it's the country's biggest seller of electric, acoustic and bass guitars. It also makes amplifiers and other instruments including banjos, ukuleles and mandolins, and sells instruments under other brands such as Squier, Jackson, Guild, Ovation and Latin Percussion.
About $100 million of the initial public offering's proceeds will go to pay debt, said the Scottsdale, Ariz., company.
Fender intends to list the "FNDR" symbol on the Nasdaq, but didn't say how many shares the company and its shareholders intend to sell or set a price target on its stock. The company also did not say when it intends to go public.
Fender said it posted net income attributable to common stockholders of $3.2 million in 2011, from a net loss of $17.3 million the year before. Revenue grew 13 percent to $700.6 million from $617.8 million.
J.P. Morgan and William Blair are managing the IPO.

When you have put hour upon hour into the creation of a Word document you can imagine the despair when you attempt to open it and it starts showing those scary error messages. There are many solutions out there to recover Word when something like that happens, but few if only one can really restore the document to its original shape and content.
I am talking about WordFIX, a download software made by Cimaware Software, makers of many other Office file recovery solutions. You can recover Word document files with this tool in only a few seconds of your time and with little or no skills needed. It is a highly usable download to recover Word when the worst has happened.
Unless you have an older version of the same file that is recent enough you can find yourself in the situation where you have to start from scratch unless you use this tool. The free version for recovering Word shows you if it will work on your files, making it a no brainer. Yes, you will have to shell out some cash, but if you weigh it against the hours lost it becomes an easy choice. And once you own a license of the program you know you will be covered if it ever happens again.
When I tested the company's response time I was amazed at the speed and quality of their support. I got a real message (not one of those automated auto-responders)in a timely manner. The most I had to wait was less than 6 hours, and that time it was because I contacted them late at night. So if I had to choose a tool for recovering Word files from corruption I have to go with WordFIX.
This tool is guaranteed to work, meaning that if it doesn't you will get your money back. I know many offer this but few really refund the purchase. Once a business has your money it is difficult to get it back for any reason. This is a concern I consulted with their customer service people in depth. What I got is a total guarantee and in writing. They told me how in some case it does happen that the file is completely unrecoverable. That is why the offer the free demo to evaluate the program. This reduces their refund ratio.
But what I was told really reduces that ratio is the quality of the application. When you recover Word documents most other tools will simply not do the job right. Whole pages could be missing or formatting, or embedded object. As I was told they have no wish of seeing their software nor their company as one that does not refund their customers when they are not satisfied. There is nothing worse than a bad comment posted about a product or a company to ruin your reputation.
I was challenged to find any such comment on-line and they were right. If there are customers displeased with this tool for recovering Word they are not telling. Maybe it si because when something does go wrong they offer free in-house recovery and of course their money back guarantee. To check out this product go to the WordFIX product page.

AC Milan advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday after Arsenal fell agonisingly short of a remarkable comeback despite an emphatic 3-0 victory over the Italian champions.
Arsenal had been left needing to pull off one of the biggest comebacks in European history after suffering a 4-0 first leg thrashing against the Serie A leaders in the San Siro last month.
But first-half goals from Laurent Koscielny, Tomas Rosicky and captain Robin van Persie fired the Gunners into an improbable 3-0 lead which left the Emirates faithful daring to dream that a miracle was on the cards.
However Milan regrouped well after the break and Arsenal were unable to find the fourth goal that would have levelled the tie, leaving the shattered Premier League giants reflecting on a 4-3 aggregate defeat.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger praised his side's display.
"They can only be proud of their performance," Wenger said.
"The team has fantastic spirit and showed some fight after the first tie, but unfortunately we go out. We had the chances for a goal, but we keep our winning run going which is important. We have paid the price for a bad first game.
"But we have given everything. That is all you can do at the top level: give everything and then you accept the result."
Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri meanwhile paid tribute to the way his side had responded after their first half mauling.
"I just said to them at half-time that we couldn't change what had happened in the first half," Allegri said. "But I said to them it was important to remember that even at 3-0 we were still qualified.
"I'm very happy because our objective was to qualify and we have done that."
Arsenal had needed to make an early breakthrough to give their hopes of a miracle some momentum and they duly scored the goal they craved after only seven minutes to send the Emirates into raptures.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain swung in an inviting corner from the left, and as the jittery Milan defence appeared to be preoccupied with the position of van Persie, Koscielny popped up unmarked to head home.
The goal infused Arsenal with belief and within minutes they were sweeping forward hungrily once more.
Theo Walcott surged down the right flank and fed van Persie, whose shot from a tight angle was well saved by Christian Abbiati.
Arsenal's relentless pressing and constant harrying prevented Milan from settling into any kind of rhythm.
Occasionally the home side fell foul of referee Damir Skomina, the Slovenian official showing yellow cards to Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs for fouls on Mark van Bommel and Stephan El Shaarawy respectively.
Yet Arsenal remained firmly in control and van Persie drew another good save from Abbiati with a vicious curling shot that was destined for the top corner.
On 26 minutes the second goal that Arsenal had been threatening arrived when Walcott burst down the right and crossed low for van Persie.
Thiago Silva intercepted but his weak clearance found Rosicky on the edge of the area and the Czech midfielder took his time and placed his shot low past Abbiati.
Shellshocked, Milan desperately tried to steady the ship with half-time looming. But just when it looked like they had weathered the storm, Arsenal made it 3-0 two minutes before the break.
Oxlade-Chamberlain popped up on the right flank and powered into the AC Milan penalty area.
The youngster's pace took him through the gap presented by Antonio Nocerino and Djamel Mesbah and when the Milanese duo sandwiched the winger, Skomina looked long and hard before pointing to the spot.
Van Persie stepped up to do the honours and put Arsenal within one goal of nirvana.
But Milan returned from the break a far more organised unit, pressing Arsenal with a vigour that had been totally absent in the opening 45 minutes.
Arsenal's best attempt to level the tie came on 59 minutes, when Gervinho raced clear down the left. The Ivorian's low shot took a deflection off Philippe Mexes and struck Abbiati's leg, but the ball bounced only as far as van Persie.
For once though the Dutchman's killer touch deserted him, and instead of opting for power he attempted to lift the rebound over the Milan keeper who was able to save.
At the other end, Arsenal lived dangerously, and were fortunate not to concede when Wojciech Szczesny's slack clearance fell to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose shot from distance flew just wide.
Szczesny was to save Arsenal twice in quick succession in the final 15 minutes as the home side poured forward for a goal, blocking Ibrahimovic's low shot and then saving from Nocerino from point-blank range.
Yet time ran out for the Gunners and Milan were through.

Shortcuts in the design of payment schemes to persuade farmers to undertake conservation works could be putting the potential environmental benefits at risk, a study involving researchers at The University of Nottingham has found.
Farmers in the EU and US receive billions of dollars/pounds in government subsidies. Increasingly, these payments are justified on the basis that they provide financial incentives to farmers to improve the environment through their activities.
Working in the Peak District, an international team of researchers led by experts at The University of Nottingham examined how the design of subsidy schemes influenced the conservation benefits provided by these programmes.
For the study, published in the latest edition of the journal Ecology Letters, the researchers combined detailed economic surveys of farms with studies of how different species responded to farm management actions.
Dr Paul Wilson, Director of the University's Rural Business Research Unit, said: "Environmental schemes designed to correct for market failures and provide public goods from land-use have been a feature of EU payments to farmers over recent decades.
"Many such schemes are designed with administrative ease in mind as much as achieving broad environmental outcomes. However, designing more targeted schemes is the most efficient use of public funds."
The EU and member states spend on average the equivalent of USD $7.2 billion per year on payments to farmers that are designed to safeguard environmental benefits. The largest subsidy scheme of this type in the US, the Conservation Reserve Program spends $1.7 billion per year to purchase such benefits on agricultural land.
Worryingly, the researchers found that all manner of shortcuts common in scheme design undermined environmental performance. Between 49 per cent and 100 per cent of the promised conservation gain was lost.
By comparing alternatives, the researchers were able to identify which simplified policies were most problematic.
"The need for different payments, in different areas, to achieve different environmental outcomes lies at the heart of better designed agri-environmental policy," added Dr Wilson.

Lindsay Lohan's highly touted appearance on Saturday Night Live was met with mixed reviews, at best. But that didn't stop her from earning big ratings for NBC.
The 25-year-old actress, who has hosted the late night show four times, brought the program to #1 in it time slot, beating out all other shows on major networks.
Additionally, Lindsay‘s episode is now counted as the second-most watched SNL of the season, with NBA legend Charles Barkley taking the top spot in 2011-12.
A platinum blonde Lohan blew off the initial negative reviews and celebrated her heavily panned hosting gig at an after-party with the rest of the SNL cast.
The star whose acting ability was called into question last night, stepped out in a trendy black and white ensemble and appeared oblivious to the criticism.
In an effort to show support, Lindsay's mother Dina Lohan joined in, as did SNL regular Kristen Wiig, producer Lorne Michaels and musical guest Jack White.
While Lindsay hosting SNL was supposed to help her comeback, it was met with scathing press instead. She appeared nervous, stiff and reliant on cue cards.
Many Twitter users were even more critical than the media. Wrote one: "This may be the first time Lindsay Lohan had trouble doing lines." Ba-dum-ching.

Every homeowner should consider investing in some type of home improvement project. These projects improve the appearance and value of your home while also improving your pride in it. Not only is doing home improvement fun, but it can also pad your wallet. This article explores several ways that you can quickly and easily improve your own home.
Theft can be a big issue when it comes to doing home improvements, as building supplies are a hot commodity and easy for people to steal and re-sell. When work is not going on, all building supplies need to be secured. If the home is secure ? all doors and windows in place and lockable ? supplies can be stored inside. If you are unable to secure your materials in the structure, then consider renting a storage container with a good lock on it.
An ugly air conditioner may be unattractive, but in certain environments it is an essential. Pretty up your exterior air conditioner with a trellis, or hide it behind a bush. You can also try planting ornamental grasses, such as pampas grass, in the area, as long as you maintain 12 inches between the unit and the roots.
While working on a hot day, it?s common to forget how much time you?ve been exerting yourself under the hot sun. It is imperative to consume a good bit of water when in excessive heat. Don?t forget to take a rest from doing manual labor to have some water and reflect on the work you did.
Turn off the plumbing if any home improvement projects will take place in the bathroom or kitchen. As a rule of thumb, if your project involves the water lines, be sure to locate the water shutoff valve to turn the water off before you begin your work. Taking this step helps to prevent flooding.
Make a bookcase unique by applying some wallpaper to it. First, choose a design that you like. Only put the wallpaper on the back of the bookcase; you will see the wallpaper behind the books. This will not only give your old bookcase a design boost, but give a focal point to your room.
Try a straight wall-mounted coat rack for a bracelet and necklace display. Never hang your more valuable jewelry, of course, but hanging costume jewelry is a great way to organize it while adding interest to a room. Having an attractive display of your jewelry adds to the decor of your room, as well as preventing tangled necklaces and chains. Keep your most used pieced within easy grasp.
Insulate your plumbing to get ready for cold winter, or just to keep your water hot while it is running through the lines to your sink. Weatherizing tape is widely available for purchase, and insulating your pipes is a simple process. This tape will keep your system from freezing, and you will not have to replace any burst lines.
Always take the time to cover all the surfaces that you can when you are doing almost any form of remodeling. When you protect these surfaces in this manner, you make sure there are no costly or bothersome damages. This means you should protect your walls from flying debris when you do not plan to repaint them, and keeping floors and other fixtures covered when painting to ensure they do not get splattered with paint.
Consider the reasons why it may be beneficial to set an alarm system on before home showings. If the neighborhood is unsafe, and you are no longer living at the home, an alarm may be needed.
If you are adding exterior lights to your outdoor spaces, think about adding motion detector lights. Having these motion activated lights will scare off any unwanted predators from your home and allow you a sense of security. This translates into lowering your electric bills.
Be careful that you don?t lose track of how long you have been outdoors in the heat when working on summer projects. Staying hydrated while working in the heat is very important. Give yourself frequent breaks to rest and have a drink, especially when you are doing demanding physical work.
Keep children safe and improve your home by putting pads on sharp furniture. You can do this with either corner protectors or foam tape. Another way to prevent your child from getting hurt is to use tape on any loose wiring.
Each spring, inspect your roof for evidence of damage. Be sure to check for those shingles that have problems and need to be replaced. Taking care of small damages in your roof prevents you from experiencing expensive issues in the future.
In conclusion, sometimes it is better to call a professional to tackle your home improvement project if you feel you are in over your head. You can save a great deal of money by taking on those home improvement projects that fall within your skill set.
